SCIP Studio – Features

  • 1. Prepare template:
Initially, an Excel template is used to gather and organize the necessary information for the SCIP dossier, such as details about chemical substances or products required by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).
  • 2. Create i6z File:
The collected information is converted into an i6z file, a standardized data exchange format for the SCIP database. This i6z file forms the SCIP dossier, containing all required data and any attached documents in a structured format.
  • 3. Dossier Functions:

  • Viewer:

Allows viewing the contents of existing or newly created i6z files to verify data prior to submission.

  • Editor:

Enables editing of the i6z file to correct, update, or add data.

  • Converter:

Converts data from Excel format into the i6z format required for submission to the ECHA database.

  • Creator:

Generates a new i6z file from the edited data in the editor or creates additional documentation necessary for submission.

  • 4. Download i6z File:
Completed i6z files can be downloaded for personal data backup and stored locally.
  • 5. Submission:
The finalized i6z file is submitted via the ECHA Submission Portal, the designated interface for SCIP database notifications.
  • 6. SCIP Database:
Upon submission, the data is stored in the SCIP database. Submission-related information, such as SCIP dossier numbers or submission transaction IDs, can additionally be retained.

Requirements: Who is affected?

Since January 2021, all companies marketing or distributing chemical substances are required under the REACH regulation (Article 33(1)) and the Waste Framework Directive (Article 9(1) and (2)) to report their data to the SCIP database and provide information to the ECHA database regarding “substances of very high concern (SVHCs) in their articles” with a concentration exceeding 0.1% by weight. Many industries, ranging from electronics to construction materials, are affected by this regulation.
Our tool simplifies the process, enabling companies to easily upload, edit, and submit SCIP dossiers directly to the ECHA database.

The SCIP database: An overview

Initiated by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), the SCIP database serves as a centralized platform for collecting and providing information on hazardous substances contained in products. It plays a critical role in implementing the EU Waste Framework Directive, aiming to make data on products containing Candidate List substances available throughout their entire lifecycle, including their waste phase. This information is then made accessible to waste management operators and consumers.

Understanding the waste directives

The EU Waste Framework Directive promotes waste reduction and recycling by obliging manufacturers to publicly provide information about SVHCs contained in their products. SCIP Studio simplifies compliance by offering a clear and straightforward solution for data submission.

Simplified data requirements

The SCIP database requires detailed information about product composition and safe usage. With SCIP Studio, we streamline this process for you. Our tool supports accurate and compliant submission of all required information.
