SAP Extended Warehouse Management (SAP EWM) is the modern and sustainable warehouse management solution from SAP. EWM represents the central solution platform for the complete supply chain in your company. It serves the central control, execution and final tracking of the processes in the warehouse. The size of the respective warehouse plays a subordinate role because the Warehouse Management System (WMS) can be scaled according to the individual requirements and thus is ideally adapted to your needs through various solution architectures and process automation.
Extended Warehouse Management can be fully integrated into the SAP infrastructure under sap S/4HANA or SAP ECC. If redundancy and failure safety in the warehouse are crucial, the decentralized architecture variant of EWM is an excellent solution for this.

Application areas of SAP EWM
Keeping an eye on the warehouse stock is an essential factor in a functioning warehouse. Therefore, SAP EWM determines the optimal storage location for storage or retrieval, depending on the product and taking into account the respective use. Inventory transparency is continuously ensured in this process.
With the use of mobile data terminals, logistics processes are no longer tied to a fixed location. Rather, your employees have the opportunity to work where the goods are stored. This increases process reliability and gives you real time transparency in the warehouse.
All data streams including the warehouse converge in EWM. This means you can use key figures to check whether the warehouse stock is optimally stored. If this should not be the case, the reorganization enables the automatic transfer of your stocks and thus restores the high availability of your stocks.
Via the central warehouse management monitor, the information is centrally available to all employees and can be analyzed there. For sophisticated reports, the SAP Business Warehouse (BW) system is directly connected to EWM. Alternatively, a dash board can be designed in SAP Fiori, customized to your individual requirements.
With SAP EWM, you can view all movements in the warehouse in real time and thus achieve maximum process transparency and traceability throughout the entire flow of goods.
The EWM system supports all common inventory procedures in logistics and thus lays the foundation for proper accounting and balancing. In addition, external tools can also be connected via a standardized interface for inventory support.
By integrating all related modules in EWM, you have the possibility to plan the current and future workload of employees and resources in the warehouse in the best possible way and to react flexibly to unforeseen events.
SAP EWM offers the possibility to communicate directly with automated warehouses or associated conveyor technology via an integrated and standardized interface. The separate maintenance and support of an additional material flow computer is thus completely eliminated. The EWM system communicates directly with the programmable logic controller (PLC) of the corresponding plant.
Are you currently still using SAP Warehouse Management or are you at the beginning of your SAP S/4HANA project?
SAP has discontinued the previous warehouse management solution (SAP WM) as of the end of 2027 (status 04.02.2021), so that SAP will no longer provide support for this solution as of this date. Therefore, it is necessary for all SAP users who have been using SAP WM up to now to carry out an analysis of the existing logistics processes in order to transfer them to a new and future-oriented system landscape.
